Welcome to the first room on the ‘piano nobile’ (noble floor), the West Entrance Hall, accessible via the monumental marble staircase on the western side of the Palace.
The room was heated by a fireplace and furnished with a square-shaped crystal lamp and a mahogany table with ten chairs of the same material, upholstered in green leather and embellished with brass studs.
The walls were painted in a shade similar to ‘straw yellow’ and decorated in chiaroscuro with arabesque motifs. The room was embellished with a collection of paintings chosen by Hackert, court painter and art director of Carditello, as Ferdinand IV of Bourbon himself entrusted the artist with the task.
Later, four small paintings by Giacomo Nani, initially exposed in one of the Boudoir toilets, were added to the works of this room. They were entitled: Dried figs and hazelnuts, Seafood, Fish on plate and jug and Green Melon with flower vase. They were transferred during the Savoy family’s period, when two private rooms, the toilets, were joined together.
