Attributable to the hand of Giacomo Nani, the still life with vegetables is missing from the 1792 exhibition of the ‘Real Casino di Carditello’ (Royal Palace of Carditello) in 1792.
In the depiction, various land products are recognizable, such as celery, carrots, lettuce, cardoons, and citrus fruits including the characteristic streaked lemon.
The work probably became part of the Picture Gallery of the Royal Site of Carditello only in 1817, when a still life with fruit was recorded in the «Eastern Entrance Hall».
In 1926, when the site was decommissioned, the work was included in the list of abandoned assets and sent to the Royal Palace of Caserta, where it was added to the post-war inventory.
At an unspecified date, the canvas was lent to the Penitentiary Police School in Aversa to furnish the reception rooms. Finally, the still life returned to the Royal Palace of Caserta in 2014.
