In the overdoor Naiad with a satyr showing a bird's nest – woven in wool and silk based on the models of Fedele Fischetti (Naples, 1732 - 1792) – a Naiad is portrayed in the company of a satyr, to whom the nymph is intent on showing a bird's nest.
Being set in the woods, the scene is enriched by the representation of some natural elements such as shrubs, which frame both the two subjects represented and the birds themselves and the waterfall.
The subject of the Naiad, a water nymph from Arcadia, is one of the most frequent in depictions of the mythical inhabitants of the woods, as she is considered the bearer of fertility and protector of marriage.
Satyrs, on the other hand, are generally represented as bearded human beings, but with ears, tail, and horns, as well as with equine or goat legs. They are often described as beings who adopt a lascivious behavior: devoted to wine, dancing, and playing the syrinx and sistrum.
